Bangladesh Women’s Team Faces Heavy Defeat in T20 Series Opener Against West Indies
After losing the ODI series to West Indies, Bangladesh Women’s team has started the T20 series with a big defeat. Despite a brilliant half-century from Nigar Sultana, the destructive batting performances of Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin overshadowed Bangladesh’s efforts.
In the first match of the three-match T20 series at Warner Park in St Kitts, West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets. Even though Bangladesh set their highest total in T20 format against West Indies, they were defeated with 19 balls to spare.
Chasing a target of 145 runs, West Indies openers gave a flying start. Fahima Khatun broke the 63-run opening partnership by dismissing Kyana Joseph, who was on 29. In the next over, Fahima took the wicket of Shamaine Campbelle as well.
Deandra Dottin scored a blistering fifty off just 21 balls, setting a record for the fastest T20 fifty by a West Indies woman player, hitting 7 sixes. Captain Hayley Matthews remained unbeaten on 60 from 54 balls, guiding her team to a comfortable victory.
Earlier, Bangladesh posted 144/3 in their 20 overs. Captain Nigar Sultana was the top scorer for Bangladesh, remaining unbeaten on 53 runs from 40 balls, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Sharmin Akhter Supta, coming in at number three, scored 37 runs off 41 balls. Together, Nigar and Sharmin added 82 runs for the third wicket off 62 balls. Earlier, openers Dilara Akter and Subhana Mostari contributed 12 and 22 runs, respectively, before being dismissed. Towards the end, Nigar Sultana formed a brief partnership with Swarna Akter, who scored 7 runs.
Despite their strong batting performance, Bangladesh could not defend the total, handing West Indies a comprehensive win in the series opener.
