Starting tomorrow, the first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan will kick off in Rawalpindi. Pakistan is clearly the favorite for the match, as they have won 12 out of 13 encounters with Bangladesh in Test cricket. However, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is not swayed by the statistics. He believes Bangladesh has a good chance against Pakistan and is eager to end their 'uncomfortable' record in Pakistan.
Before the match on Tuesday, Shanto addressed the media at a press conference. Expressing optimism about his team's balanced composition and potential, he said, "We had a good series against New Zealand in the Test Championship. We didn't perform well against Sri Lanka. However, we have a good opportunity against Pakistan this time. Our team is well-balanced, and I hope we can play good cricket here."
Regarding Bangladesh's lack of victories against Pakistan in Test matches, Shanto commented, "I think it (Pakistan’s 12-0 record against Bangladesh) is just a record. Records can be changed. It won't be easy, but as I mentioned, our team is very balanced. We believe we can achieve something special this time. The players are excited to play here."
Two days before the start of the series' first Test against Bangladesh, Pakistan announced their squad. On Wednesday, Pakistan and Bangladesh will face off in Rawalpindi. Pakistan will not be fielding any spinners in this Test, indicating the nature of the pitch. Their bowling attack will be entirely pace-based. Under the leadership of Shan Masood, Pakistan will take the field with four pace bowlers.
How important is winning the toss in such a match? Shanto replied, "Yes, (the toss) is very important. In my opinion, the players are ready for batting and bowling. However, the toss is significant. Personally, I am not thinking too much about the toss. As cricketers, we need to be prepared for all situations."
