Bangladesh U-19 Women’s Cricket Team Ready for T20 World Cup in Malaysia
The Bangladesh U-19 Women’s Cricket Team will leave for Malaysia today, Thursday, to compete in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. Ahead of their departure, the team participated in a photoshoot at the Mirpur Home of Cricket and captain Sumaiya Akter shared her optimism for the tournament, expressing confidence that the team will perform well. Despite being in a challenging group with Australia, Sumaiya believes the Australian team will fear Bangladesh more than the other way around.
Confidence After Asia Cup Success: Recently, Bangladesh Women’s U-19 team had a successful mission in Malaysia for the U-19 Asia Cup, where they reached the final and only lost to India. This experience in Malaysia has given the team ample confidence as they head into the T20 World Cup, which will also be held in Malaysia.
Sumaiya Akter expressed her satisfaction with the team, saying, "Alhamdulillah, our team is really good. If we can play our roles well, then we are confident that we can achieve something great. I know where our strengths lie, and if we fight with that strength, we will surely end up with good results."
Australia is the One to Fear: Bangladesh’s U-19 Women’s team had previously defeated Australia in the group stage of the last competition. With that in mind, Sumaiya believes the fear factor is not on Bangladesh's side but rather on Australia’s. She stated, "Our first target is to play our game well, whether against Australia or anyone else. We believe that if we play our game, Australia will be the ones who fear us. Especially since we have already played in Malaysia, we will have an advantage there."
The Bangladesh team will start their Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup campaign on January 18 against Nepal.
