Bangladesh Team Departs for Chennai with High Hopes After Pakistan Whitewash
With the memory of their recent whitewash of Pakistan in Rawalpindi still fresh, the Bangladesh cricket team is heading to Chennai for their upcoming Test series against India. The series will begin on September 19. The team departed for Chennai at 1:05 PM today. Before leaving the country, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto described the Indian series as a challenging one, but expressed the team’s determination to win both Test matches.
Following their dominance over Pakistan, Shanto and his team are focused on overcoming India. Speaking about their plans, Shanto said, “This is definitely going to be a very challenging series for us. However, after a good series, there is certainly an added confidence within the team and among the people of the country. Every series is an opportunity. We will play to win both matches. The key things to win are the process and doing things right. If we can execute our plans properly, good results are possible, though it will be challenging.”
He emphasized the importance of playing as a cohesive unit, stating, “It is crucial to play as a team. We will strive to play good cricket. The plan is for Bangladesh to win, and that is the goal we will aim for on the field. I have also managed to prepare well and will try my best to contribute to the team.”
The Bangladesh team achieved a notable whitewash of Pakistan in the Test series held on home soil, with a 10-wicket victory in the first Test and a thrilling 6-wicket win in the second. Their dominant performance in Rawalpindi was marked by impressive victories in both matches.
For the upcoming series, there has been one change to the squad that defeated Pakistan 2-0. Left-arm pacer Shariful Islam has been sidelined due to a lingering calf injury, and has been replaced by wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik.
