Bangladesh Sets 228-Run Target Against Afghanistan in U-19 Asia Cup Opener
In the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup, Bangladesh put up a challenging total of 228 runs against Afghanistan after opting to bat first. The standout performer for Bangladesh was captain Azizul Hakim Tamim, who scored a century, while opener Kalam Siddiqui also contributed with a half-century.
Batting first after losing the toss at the Dubai International Stadium, Bangladesh set a target of 228 in their allotted 50 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process.
Bangladesh’s innings got off to a shaky start as opener Jawad Abrar was dismissed in the very first over without scoring, leaving the team at 0/1. However, the partnership between captain Tamim and Kalam Siddiqui stabilized the innings. The duo added 142 runs for the second wicket, with Kalam Siddiqui making 66 runs, including a half-century. He was eventually bowled out by AM Ghazanfar’s delivery.
After Kalam’s departure, Bangladesh’s middle-order failed to capitalize, with Devashis Deba scoring just 1 run off 6 balls, and Shihab James managing only 10 runs. Rizwan Hossain, Al Fahad, and wicketkeeper Farid Hasan also failed to make an impact.
Despite the middle-order collapse, captain Tamim fought valiantly, completing his century with a composed 103 runs. He was dismissed in the 47th over after hitting 4 sixes and 8 fours.
In the end, Bangladesh finished their innings at 228 runs in 50 overs
