Bangladesh looses both openers before lunch
On the first day of the Test match in Kanpur, Bangladesh lost both their openers before the lunch break, managing a total of 74 runs. Zakir Hasan was dismissed for a duck after facing 24 balls, becoming the second victim of Indian pacer Akash Deep, who made a strong impact early on.
After losing the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh started steadily with openers Sadman Islam and Zakir Hasan managing to navigate the first half-hour without any issues. However, Zakir could not open his account and was dismissed in Akash Deep's very first over.
Following Zakir's dismissal, Akash Deep struck again, removing Sadman Islam for 24 runs off 36 balls. Initially, the appeal for leg before wicket (LBW) was turned down by the on-field umpire, but Indian captain Rohit Sharma successfully reviewed the decision.
At 29 runs for two wickets, Bangladesh found some relief thanks to the partnership between Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. Both players faced 48 balls in the first session, with Mominul ending unbeaten on 17 runs and Shanto contributing 28 runs.
Among the Indian bowlers, Akash Deep shone with two wickets, conceding only 14 runs in his six overs, giving India a solid start in the match.
