Bangladesh Faces Nightmare Start in Second Innings Against South Africa
Bangladesh's second innings began in nightmarish fashion, as they struggled to establish any momentum. After navigating the first two overs without incident, they collapsed in the third when Kagiso Rabada struck with two quick wickets. Opener Saadman Islam managed just 1 run before Mominul Haque was dismissed for a duck. By the time tea was taken, Bangladesh was reeling at 19 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, still trailing by 183 runs.
Coming in 202 runs behind, Bangladesh faced a severe setback due to Rabada's pace. After dismissing Saadman, Rabada sent Mominul back to the pavilion, both players caught in the slips after failing to handle the pace. Saadman, who faced 7 balls, ended up with only 1 run, while Mominul returned without scoring after just 3 balls, marking consecutive failures with scores of 4 and 0. This put the team's most experienced batter in a difficult position.
However, after losing 2 wickets with just 4 runs on the board, captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto and fellow opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy provided a bit of stability.
In the first innings, Bangladesh was bowled out for 106, while South Africa posted 308 runs, giving them a lead of 202 runs. With Kyle Verreynne scoring a century and being dismissed for 114 runs, the visitors set a challenging target, putting Bangladesh under pressure once again in their second innings.
