Sri Lanka all over Bangladesh again
The third day's play of the Chattogram Test is underway, and Bangladesh finds themselves in a precarious position. While Sri Lankan batters thrived on the pitch, Bangladeshi batters struggled, reminiscent of their previous performances. Yesterday, they lost only one wicket, but today, in the first two sessions, they lost the remaining nine wickets. Bangladesh collapsed for 178 in response to Sri Lanka's 532, marking another embarrassing record for the Tigers, failing to score below 200 runs in three consecutive innings.
The start of the second innings proved challenging for Bangladesh, as they lost three wickets before lunch. The struggles continued even after the launch. This time, they lost six wickets, with Bangladesh being bowled out in the second session of the third day, managing only 178 runs. After Zakir Hasan's fifty, Mominul Haque fought a lone battle, scoring 33 runs before getting out, leaving Bangladesh in a dire situation. Sakib Al Hasan returned to bat but failed to make an impact, getting dismissed for 15 runs. Despite Liton Das's impressive performance in the Sylhet Test, he couldn't replicate it and fell for just 4 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also struggled to contribute and was dismissed after scoring just 7 runs.
Mominul Haque reached a milestone of 4000 Test runs, scoring 25 runs off 66 balls. He became the fourth Bangladeshi batsman to achieve this milestone after Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, and Sakib Al Hasan. However, Mominul fell victim to Lasith Embuldeniya's delivery, adding to Bangladesh's woes. With Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, and Sakib Al Hasan, Mominul Haque became the fourth Bangladeshi batsman to reach this milestone. But before reaching tea, Mominul Haque returned to the pavilion, falling into Ashita's trap after scoring 33 runs.
