Bangladesh Cricket Team Will Not Play in India, BCB Writes to ICC for Alternative Venues
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held an emergency board meeting this afternoon to discuss recent developments related to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This edition of the World Cup is scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, the board reviewed events from the past 24 hours and expressed deep concern, particularly regarding the participation of the Bangladesh national team in matches scheduled in India.
After assessing the situation and considering the advice of the Government of Bangladesh, the board has decided that under the current circumstances, the Bangladesh national team will not travel to India.
The BCB has formally requested the ICC to consider holding all of Bangladesh’s matches at venues outside India.
The board stated that such a measure is essential to ensure the safety and security of Bangladeshi players, team officials, board members, and other stakeholders, and to allow the team to participate in the tournament in a safe and appropriate environment.
The BCB hopes that the ICC will understand the situation and respond urgently to address the matter.
