Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes into School Building in Dhaka; 19 Dead, Over 160 Injured
A tragic incident unfolded in Dhaka’s Uttara Diabari area, where a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 fighter jet crashed into a two-storey building of Milestone School and College. The devastating accident has so far claimed the lives of 19 people, including the pilot, and left at least 164 others injured — many of them students.
The ill-fated aircraft, identified as an FT-7 BGI fighter jet, reportedly encountered mechanical failure shortly after takeoff. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, but officials say the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Md. Tawkir Islam, made a valiant attempt to steer the malfunctioning jet away from densely populated areas in an effort to minimize casualties.
Despite his efforts, the aircraft tragically crashed into the school premises, causing widespread destruction and chaos. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
The accident has sent shockwaves across the region, and condolences are pouring in from various quarters. Among them was Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who expressed his grief in a heartfelt Facebook post.
“Heartbreaking and tragic. Praying for all those who lost their lives in the plane crash in Bangladesh. Hoping for miracles and strength for the families,” he wrote.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and assess the extent of the damage.
