Bangladesh ‘A’ Suffers First Defeat After Three Wins, Series Decider Awaits
Bangladesh ‘A’ team faced their first defeat in the ongoing one-day series against Sri Lanka ‘A’, losing the fifth match by 27 runs. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first and were bowled out for 196. However, Bangladesh faltered in their chase, bowled out for 169, extending their wait for a series win.
Despite the loss, Bangladesh still leads the six-match series 3-2. A win in the final match would secure the series trophy for the visitors.
Chasing a target of 197, Bangladesh’s innings was derailed early by a top-order collapse. Previous match centurion Jawad Abrar failed to replicate his form, managing only 7 runs off 11 balls. Kalam Siddique’s poor run continued as he was dismissed for just 1 run off 8 deliveries.
Captain Azizul Hakim Tamim also failed to anchor the innings, departing for 4 runs, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 17/3. Rizan Hossain attempted to steady the ship, but his dismissal for 25 with the team on 51 further deepened the crisis.
Mohammad Abdullah and Debashish Deba tried to rebuild the innings with a cautious partnership. Abdullah was dismissed for 32, while Deba could only manage 24 before being bowled by Kugadas Mathulan.
Samiun Basir Ratul then partnered with wicketkeeper-batter Farid Hasan in a last-ditch effort. Samiun scored a quick 37 off just 26 balls, and Farid added 30, but their efforts fell short. Bangladesh ‘A’ was eventually bowled out for 169, falling 27 runs short.
The final match of the series now stands as a decider, with Bangladesh needing a win to clinch the series.
