Nasum Leads Late Surge as Bangladesh 'A' Post Competitive 227 in Final ODI Against New Zealand 'A'
Bangladesh ‘A’ had already sealed the series against New Zealand ‘A’ in Sylhet with one game to spare. But their hopes of completing a clean sweep were dealt a blow early in the final ODI as the top order crumbled. However, fighting half-centuries from Yasir Ali Chowdhury and Nasum Ahmed helped the hosts post a challenging total of 227.
Top Order Fails, Yasir and Nasum Stand Tall
Nurul Hasan Sohan’s side opted to bat first after losing the toss at Sylhet International Stadium’s Ground Two. But the decision quickly backfired as both openers fell cheaply. Naim Sheikh was dismissed for just 4 in the first over, and Anamul Haque Bijoy followed soon after, scoring 2 off 8 balls.
Saif Hassan (31) and Yasir Ali steadied the innings with a useful partnership. Yasir showed solid technique and patience, scoring 63 before falling. Meanwhile, Afif Hossain (1), captain Nurul Hasan Sohan (12), and Mosaddek Hossain (4) all fell to spinner Adi Ashok, leaving Bangladesh in a precarious position.
Nasum's Lone Stand
From 146/7, Bangladesh were at risk of folding under 200, but Nasum Ahmed had other ideas. Displaying resilience and clean hitting, he smashed 67 off 96 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. He found a steady partner in Ebadot Hossain, who added a valuable 12 off 26 balls in a last-wicket stand of 47 runs.
Nasum reached his fifty in the 42nd over with a boundary and eventually pushed Bangladesh to a respectable total before being dismissed with the innings ending on 227.
Despite early setbacks, Nasum’s heroics gave Bangladesh ‘A’ something to bowl at as they aimed to finish the series on a high note.
