Hathu is worried about Bangladesh's batting
Bangladesh's batting has long been a point of concern, and after the Chennai Test, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has a new worry on his mind. Despite starting solidly, the batsmen have struggled to convert starts into significant innings, which has become a pressing issue.
In a press conference in Kanpur, Hathurusingha stated, "If we get a good start, we must convert it into bigger innings. That’s what worries us. In cricket, once you’ve faced 30 balls, it’s crucial to settle in. We need to build a strong resistance against a team like India, and that requires us to bat well for extended periods."
He noted that the top-order batsmen are eager to perform but are finding themselves dismissed too early after promising starts. "It’s a concern that they are getting out after good beginnings. They are keen to do well. In the last match, we didn’t play to our potential," he explained.
Hathurusingha also mentioned that the openers are aware of the need to improve their performance against the new ball: "The openers are thinking about this more than we are. They are in good shape, and I hope they will perform better this time. Every batsman is working on these aspects."
Regarding the composition of the team, particularly the prevalence of left-handed batsmen in the first Test against India, he addressed whether changes would be made for the second Test in Kanpur. "We believe this is our best combination, whether left-handed or right-handed. Any changes to the lineup will depend on how the pitch looks tomorrow."
The focus is clearly on maximizing opportunities and converting starts into substantial scores to enhance their competitiveness against India.
