Aminul Haque Issues Strong Warning Against Corruption in Cricket Board

Alongside his election campaign, BNP-nominated candidate for Dhaka-16 Aminul Haque has also become vocal about the future of the country’s sports sector. During a door-to-door campaign in Mirpur, he strongly criticised the current structure and leadership of the cricket board, warning that strict action would be taken against irregularities and corruption if his party comes to power.

On the fifth day of the national parliamentary election campaign, Monday (January 26), Aminul Haque began his outreach activities in various areas of Mirpur Section-6 in the morning. He exchanged greetings with local residents and sought votes by distributing leaflets. While speaking to journalists during the campaign, he raised serious questions about the present condition of the country’s cricket board.

Expressing frustration over the leadership and formation process of the cricket board, former national football team captain Aminul Haque said, **“For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, a highly questionable cricket board has been formed. Due to the authoritarian actions of an inexperienced former sports adviser, the cricket board has become disgraced. Their flawed policies and personal interests are causing irreparable damage to the country’s cricket.”**

Highlighting the failure of cricket diplomacy, he further said, **“Because of the lack of cricket diplomacy, the Bangladesh team is now facing security complications. Security is our right, and the country’s interest comes first. However, the current board has failed to resolve this crisis through proper diplomatic discussions with the ICC or the Indian Cricket Board. The burden of this inexperience is being borne by the entire nation’s cricket.”**

Outlining his post-election plans, the BNP candidate symbolised by the sheaf of paddy added, **“If we can win with the votes of the people and if Allah accepts us, every activity of this board will be properly investigated. My cricket and my country cannot be harmed for anyone’s personal interest. Everyone involved in this damage will be brought to justice.”**

During the campaign, a large number of leaders and activists from the local BNP and its affiliated organisations were present alongside Aminul Haque. At the time, he sought prayers from voters and urged them to vote for the sheaf of paddy in the interest of overall development, including the country’s sports sector.
