In the 1999 Meril International Cricket Tournament, Zimbabwe's captain was Alistair Campbell, which featured Kenya, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe. Campbell led Zimbabwe to victory against Bangladesh in both matches. He scored 55 runs in one match and 97 in another.
From 1997 to 2001, Campbell has played 8 more innings against Bangladesh in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Tests. He scored a total of 421 runs in 10 innings, including 3 fifties and 1 century.
The reason behind Alistair Campbell's remarkable performance against Bangladesh years ago resurfaces now due to his son. Jonathan Campbell, aged 26, has earned a place in Zimbabwe's squad of 15 members for the T20I series against Bangladesh.
In Sikandar Raza's leadership, the only uncapped cricketer in the squad is Alistair Campbell's son, Jonathan Campbell. He is set to arrive in Bangladesh with the Zimbabwe team on April 28. Like his father, Jonathan, aged 26, is an all-rounder. He bats left-handed and bowls leg-break. He has played 30 first-class matches, 39 List A matches, and 26 T20 matches, scoring 1678, 1063, and 293 runs respectively. He has taken 39, 27, and 10 wickets respectively.
Jonathan Campbell's uncle, Donald Campbell, was also a cricketer. However, due to players like Andy Flower and Wayne James, he never got a chance to play for Zimbabwe's national team. His career includes 53 first-class matches and 14 List A matches.
The Zimbabwe cricket team is set to arrive in Bangladesh on April 28 to compete in a five-match T20 series. The first match will take place on May 3 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The second and third matches of the series will also be held at the same venue on May 5 and May 7, respectively.
On May 10, the fourth T20 match will be held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, followed by the fifth T20 match on May 12. Bangladesh will bid farewell to the Zimbabwe team on May 13.
