Abahani Limited continued their dominant run in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), defeating Legends of Rupganj by a comprehensive 7-wicket margin to retain their position at the top of the points table.
Batting first, Rupganj struggled early, losing two quick wickets for just 22 runs. Tanzid Tamim (4) and Soumya Sarkar (2) departed cheaply, while Afif Hossain Dhrubo also failed to deliver, scoring just 1 run. Rupganj were in deep trouble at 65 for 4.
However, contributions from Mehedi Maruf (48), captain Akbar Ali (35), Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan (40), and Shariful Islam (34) helped them recover and post 225 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
For Abahani, skipper Mosaddek Hossain Saikat led the bowling attack with 4 wickets, while Rakibul Hasan claimed 3 wickets.
In response, Abahani chased down the target with ease. They lost opener Shahriar Kamal for 32 after a 44-run opening stand. But the second-wicket partnership between Parvez Hossain Emon and Zisan Alam proved decisive. The pair added 113 runs, putting Abahani firmly on course for victory.
Parvez scored a composed 73 off 84 balls, while Zisan contributed 63 off 69 balls. Mohammad Mithun (29*) and Mehrab Hasan (24*) finished the job, guiding Abahani to 226 for 3 in just 37.3 overs.
For Legends of Rupganj, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Saif Hasan, and Swadhin Islam each took a wicket.
With this win, Abahani strengthened their bid for the DPL title as the tournament enters its crucial final stages.
