In the morning, Bangladesh, led by Khaled and Shariful, came five times in the celebration. Returning to the dressing room with much contentment during lunch break, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto seemed quite satisfied. But on the field, the Tigers' bowlers seemed to have forgotten how to take wickets.
With Sri Lanka cruising along in the batting, despite the wickets of Dhananjaya and Kamindu, the partnership of the Sri Lankan batsmen seems to be accelerating the scoreboard. The duo's partnership of 160 runs has positioned Sri Lanka at 217/5.
Thanks to Khaled's brilliance, the first session of the Sylhet Test went splendidly for Bangladesh. Taking 5 wickets for just 92 runs in 22 overs, Bangladesh had a dominant start. Khaled particularly controlled the game in the morning session, creating difficulties for the struggling Sri Lankan batsmen.
Although Bangladesh took quick wickets in the first session, the second session was quite bleak for them. The bowlers failed to create any opportunities, and the Sri Lankan batsmen comfortably batted through the session. Despite some resistance from Dhananjaya and Kamindu, the scoring rate increased considerably for Sri Lanka.
As the second session unfolded, Sri Lanka seemed to be in a strong position, with the scoreboard reading 217/5. The Bangladeshi bowlers struggled to make an impact, and the Sri Lankan batsmen took advantage of the favorable conditions.
Moving into the Test career's second innings, Kamindu faced the first challenge in the second session. Unfortunately, he couldn't return to the pavilion as he was caught at second slip by Shariful Islam off Mahmudul Hasan Joy's delivery. After his initial struggle, Kamindu made no further mistakes, taking responsibility and guiding the team. He significantly improved his innings.
In the mood of the one-day format, both batsmen managed to score half-centuries consecutively. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva scored his fifty from 52 balls, while Kamindu Mendis achieved his fifty in 51 balls. Their partnership reached a century in 96 balls, signaling their dominance.
