এই এমসিজিতেই ১৯৯৪ সালে অ্যাসেজে টেস্ট ম্যাচে প্রথম টেস্ট হ্যাটট্রিকটি করেছিলেন শেন ওয়ার্ন। সাউদার্ন স্ট্যান্ডের নামকরণ করা হয় ওয়ার্নের নামে- ‘শেন ওয়ার্ন স্ট্যান্ড’।
ওয়ার্নের মেমোরিয়াল সার্ভিসে জনপ্রিয় ধারাভাষ্যকার নাসের হুসেইন রুডইয়ার্ড কিপলিংয়ের লেখা ‘ইফ’-এর একটি সুন্দর উপস্থাপনা দিয়ে বন্ধু শেন ওয়ার্নকে শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়েছেন। নাসের হুসেইনের কণ্ঠে,
‘যদি তুমি স্বপ্ন দেখ, কিন্তু তোমার সেই স্বপ্নকে নিজের না বানাতে পারো… যদি তুমি ভাবো, কিন্তু সেই ভাবনাকে নিজের লক্ষ্যে পরিণত না করো… যদি তুমি সাফল্য এবং বিপর্যয়ের মুখোমুখি হও এবং এই দুটিকে একই দৃষ্টিতে দেখতে না পারো…’
বিশ্বকে বিদায় জানানো ওয়ার্ন অন্যতম সফল বোলার। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে দ্বিতীয় সর্বোচ্চ উইকেট সংগ্রাহক তিনি। এক হাজারের বেশি আন্তর্জাতিক উইকেট রয়েছে তাঁর নামের পাশে।
