
অনূর্ধ্ব-১৯ বিশ্বকাপে নিজে টুর্নামেন্ট সেরা হয়ে ভারতকে পাইয়েছেন বিশ্বকাপের স্বাদ। এরপর জাতীয় দলের হয়ে ছিলেন টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপজয়ী দলের সদস্য। ২০১১ সালে ভারত যেবার দ্বিতীয়বারের মত বিশ্বকাপ জেতে, সেবারও টুর্নামেন্ট সেরার খেতাব ছিলো অলরাউন্ডার যুবরাজ সিংয়ের দখলে। আজ (১০ জুন) হঠাৎ করেই যুবরাজ বিদায় বলে দিলেন আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটকে, ক্রিকেট মাঠে অসামান্য অবদানের জন্য অবসরের পর সতীর্থ থেকে শুরু করে পুরো ক্রিকেট বিশ্ব কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছে যুবরাজের প্রতি।
বয়স ভিত্তিক দল ও ঘরোয়া টুর্নামেন্টে ঝলক দেখিয়ে ২০০০ সালে ওয়ানডে দলে সুযোগ পান যুবরাজ সিং। অক্টোবরে কেনিয়ার বিপক্ষে ম্যাচ দিয়ে ভারতের হয়ে লম্বা ক্রিকেট ক্যারিয়ারের শুরুটা করেন যুবরাজ। প্রথম ম্যাচে ব্যাট হাতে নামার সুযোগ পাননি, বল হাতে ৪ ওভার বল করে ছিলেন উইকেট শূন্য। পরের ম্যাচেই অজিদের বিপক্ষে ৮০ বলে ৮৪ রান করে নিজের আগমনী বার্তা দেন সবাইকে। নিজেকে তৈরি করেন বিধ্বংসী ব্যাটসম্যান হিসাবে। যিনি কিনা বোলিংটাও করেন ঠিকঠাক। এরপরের গল্পটা জানা সবার।
ভারতের হয়ে বিশ্ব মাতানোর পর ২০১৭ সালের জুন মাসে উইন্ডিজদের বিপক্ষে ওয়ানডে খেলার পর আর ভারতীয় দলে জায়গা পাননি যুবরাজ সিং। আজ (১০ জুন) আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দিলেন আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট থেকে অবসরের ঘোষণা।
ক্যান্সারের ভয়াল থাবার পরও যুদ্ধ করে দলে জায়গা করে নিয়েছিলেন। অবসরের ঘোষণা দেবার সময় যুবরাজ বলেন, ‘এটা (ক্যারিয়ার) একটা অসাধারণ রোলার কোস্টার রাইড ছিল। তবে এটার একতা শেষ হতেই হতো। শেষ বলে দেবার এটাই সঠিক সময়।’
২০১১ বিশ্বকাপের টুর্নামেন্ট সেরা এই ক্রিকেটারের অবসরের পর সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে শুভেচ্ছা বার্তা জানিয়েছেন যুবরাজের সতীর্থ থেকে শুরু করে বিশ্ব ক্রিকেটের সাবেক আর বর্তমান ক্রিকেটাররা। বাদ যাননি সমর্থকেরাও।
