London 6’s Competition: successful 7th edition

Last two days London saw some exciting shorter format of cricket with clots, girls and men’s cricket. This fund-raising initiative is supported by Surrey Cricket Foundation, Essex Cricket Foundation and Canary Wharf Group. Pran (BD) supplied food and juice throughout the two days and Ganador Sports who gave away helmets for special performances.

Capital Kids Cricket and London Tigers started London 6’s back in 2010. This is 7th edition of 6’s expanded to South London this year.

On 6th August Elite Youth Stars won the colts competition beating West Ham & Stratford by 5 wickets at Dulwich Sports Ground. Despite summer holidays and burning heat 5 teams took part in the inaugural colts 6’s. Girls 6 a side will be held 1st week of October at he same venue with 12 teams.

On 7th August After a day-long of intensive cricket action, London Tigers CC emerged as champions of the 6 a-side International London Sixes Cricket Competition 2018 held at Leyton County Ground, London.

This is the highest standard six a side cricket competition in the UK with former international players such as Shahzaib Hasan Khan (Pakistan), Mohammed Ashraful (former Bangladesh captain), Shaftab Khalid (England Lions), Irfan Jnr (Pakistan U19’s) and many other first class players participating along with community cricketers across London.

The final was contested between London Tigers CC vs NEO CC. London Tigers beat a strong London Tigers Southall side that included former Bangladesh cricketer Mohammed Ashraful in a close semi final, winning by 9 runs.  NEO CC beat Elite Premier League In the other semi final.

In the final LTCC batting first scored 75 off their 5 overs with great batting from former Essex CCC batsmen Tanveer Sikander and Ahmed Khawaja who helped score 22 off the final over.

In reply NEO CC were always under pressure as the first two overs were very tight and then the fourth over of A. Khawaja was the lethal blow taking two wickets leaving the final bowler to defend 30 of the last over. LTCC won by 18 runs.

The founder of the competition and Director of the event Md Shahidul Alam Ratan, CEO of Capital Kids Cricket said “It was a great event this year with many high standard players taking part and some close group games and semi-finals. In the end there has to be one winner so congratulations to London Tigers CC on becoming 2018 champions.Our aim was to making bridge with the community level plays with professional / international stars. Some of our community level players has only chance to play with their heroes. I am so pleased about this which can only inspire next generations.”
