With only 30 days left until the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, Bangladesh's journey begins with a series against Zimbabwe in Chittagong. During this series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will announce the World Cup squad. Hence, this series holds significant importance for the 15-member squad coming to Chittagong. This event marks the first major event where Shanto will wear the captain's armband. Bangladesh aims to deliver a strong performance against Zimbabwe to boost their momentum going into the World Cup.

In the squad facing Zimbabwe, Tanzid Hasan Tamim is the only uncapped cricketer. After 18 months, all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been reconsidered for the national team. They are also under consideration for the World Cup squad.

Addressing questions about all-rounder Saifuddin, Captain Shanto stated, "Saifuddin is definitely an important cricketer. This is a great opportunity for him. Those who bat in our lower middle order, like Taskin, Tanzim, Sakib, Rishad, even Shariful – they all can bat. In terms of coordination, we are in a good place. If he gets a chance in the team, it will definitely be beneficial. If he can perform his best, it will aid the team."

This series is crucial for Shanto as it is his first World Cup as captain.

"Firstly, as captain, I want to win this series. That's our initial goal. Of course, we will keep our preparations in mind. We won't take the game lightly or engage in too much experimentation, because the 15 players we have here are all capable of defeating this team. I wouldn't just call it preparation; I would say it's about making good preparations and ensuring we are well-prepared in all areas as we head to the World Cup."
